Maine Section ASCE Awards:

The Maine Section has three Section Awards and two college scholarships.   The Awards Committee is responsible for collecting and evaluating the awards presented each year including the Engineer of the Year, Younger Engineer of the Year, and the Maine Section Citizen Engineer Award.   A Scholarship Committee is responsible for collecting and evaluating scholarship applications and making a recommendation to the Board.

Engineer of the Year Awards:

Both awards are further evaluated with a nominee meeting one or more of the following items:

1. Excellent performance in responsible capacity on a project involving creative design, innovative construction, application of unique technology, or management of a complex project.
2. Evidence of high character and professional integrity
3. Civic and humanitarian activities (community service)
4. Distinguished achievement in government or private service
5. Advancement of engineering knowledge by teaching at the college level and/or conducting significant research

Maine Section Citizen Engineer Award:

This award is to recognize Civil Engineers who are known for volunteering their expertise in helping at a community or at a national level. These individuals have contributed significant personal energy to enhance the recognition of civil engineering as a respected profession through their involvement. The volunteering or community service could include, but is not limited to:

- community property restoration or construction;
- school age outreach (in schools or job shadowing);
- judging math/science or school engineering competitions;
- assisting organizations that help those in need or with disabilities;
- assisting churches/other groups that send delegations to 3rd world countries;
- participating in emergency/disaster relief assessments;
- helping organize local public broadcast/articles on civil engineering;
- participating in disease research fund raising activities;
- serving on planning boards, school boards, etc.; or,
- providing engineering expertise to community based efforts.
 

Honorees must be an engineer residing in Maine and they must have been involved in their volunteering effort for a minimum of 2 years. Nominations must be made in writing before April 15th. Each nomination must be accompanied by at least two letters of support.
