Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Task Force Committee
Purpose: The section actively participates in a task force with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and other professional organizations whose members provide services to clients in response to DEP regulatory, permit, and other requirements. The DEP Task Force was created in 1989 through an initiative of Consulting Engineers of Maine (CEM) to improve the communications and working relationship between consulting professionals and the DEP. The purpose of the task force is to exchange information that may be of use to each of participating organization members and to raise and resolve roadblocks to efficient and effective communications, processes, and documents. Examples of information exchange has included the evolving Phase II Stormwater regulatory program, legislative actions affecting DEP, Task Force development of wetland mapping guidance, awareness of the SMART and other programs aimed at reducing the generation of wastes and improving the efficiency of manufacturing and service processes. Section members are encouraged to contact the committee members listed below to raise any issues they have regarding dealings with the DEP and ways to improve the process.
