Minutes (Partial) for Feb. 17, 2005

a. Programs-
ü April 14 is student chapter meeting in Orono. Dana will remind them to advertise at Technical Seminar and to get registration info/materials out to us before end of month so we can send by email to email list if Informant not going out until 1st week in April. Possibly should put in March Informant (1st week in March if possible).
ü May 25 is Annual meeting in Rockland. Peter will get a Board to advertise at Tech Seminar. Peter will draft a program and distribute to all to review in advance. Agenda will include any recognition of Life members, awards, scholarships and induction of officers. Announcements will include Order of the Engineer sign up (see if any interest). Registrants will be asked about signing up for tours of Dragon Cement plant and quarry as well (preferred time) so we can arrange appropriate number of tour guides. Registrations will go out in early April and will have a $5 discount for any registrations/notice of attendance received on or before May19th (final headcount must be given on this day). Anyone who signs up past 19th will pay full price of $35 (cost of meal is around $37-38).
ü April 22 is DEP conference at Augusta Civic Center on Stormwater BMP and LID.
ü June is annual A/E golf Tournament. Peter will follow up with Woodard & Curran to find out specifics for this year. June 10th is the date.
ü Remaining BOARD MEETINGS: March 29th and May 12th both at 4:30 pm at Maine Turnpike office in Portland.
b. Technical Seminar- March 22 in Lewiston- All set on agenda/speakers. Will need help on last minute admin duties such as certificates and name tags (Peter offered to help with Brenda)
c. Model Contest- one submittal is the winner from PVHS in Howland. Motion to give school $500 and student team to split $1000 passes. Phil Dunn bringing to USM on Saturday Feb 26th. Walter Wilson to transport to tech seminar. Maybe do presentation to students at Orono meeting or take a ride to Howland (Bob, Phil, Be, etc…). Be will send letter of congratulations. We need to remember to send a postcard to all the schools announcing the winner and reminding teachers to plan on some time to put this in their curriculum next year. Advertise the web site and put some pictures up of the model. Do in April or May with a press release at same time.
d. Younger members- motion to pre-purchase tickets for YM is approved ($1490). Walter will coordinate trip/ticket sales. YM also doing a pool tourney in Bangor at Classics on March 20th to benefit student scholarships.
5. A student meeting in Orono- Dana gave out a letter from ASCE that can be used to solicit funding of ASCE room in Boardman Hall. Maine Section will present $5000 to U.Maine on April 14th as part of student meeting. MTA will present a check for $2000 at same meeting (and will bring a framed “widening” poster to be hung in the new room as well). A representative from each company will present their check in Room 309 prior to our meeting.
4. New Business
a) Be Schonewald is in process of reviewing our section bylaws.
b) Adam Meyer will be attending the N.E. Council Meeting on March 4, 2005 @ UMass-Lowell
c) There was some discussion on selecting a spokesperson for the 2005 Report Card to be announced by National ASCE on March 9, 2005.
since there were no volunteers Bob indicated he would be spokesperson. National
reverts to the section President if they are not given a local
contact and Eric is unavailable.
