The board reviewed the proposed, revised 2005-2006
budget.
ii.
Add Cold Regions Conference line item in receipts and disbursements
for tracking. Include $6,000 for receipts and disbursements.

Interest was initiated by the Observatory’s national
historic landmark status
ii.
Tim distributed a write-up entitled “Lemuel Moody and
the Portland Observatory.” Lemuel Moody,
a sea captain, commissioned construction of the observatory. Tim and Peter Merfeld will research civil engineering
components of the observatory and report back to the board.
i.
Peter Merfeld previously mentioned dams. Ralph Nelson mentioned an Amberson-type Dam
in the Ellsworth Area.
i.
Patti Korbet introduced ASCE member Ralph Nelson. Ralph has volunteered to maintain/update the
Maine Section website. Ralph indicated he will be able to attend board
meetings.
ii.
Website-only content should be sent directly to Ralph.
iii.
Informant
material that may end up posted on the website should be sent to Patti or
Walter.
i.
Be Schonewald not present to report.
ii.
Contest submissions due in February. Open to all civil engineering works (not only
historical). Open to middle school and
high school students.
iii.
Bob requested board members contact a minimum of two
schools in their communities.
iv.
Pre-release announcement to go to guidance councilors
and principals in October.
i.
Bob Chaput indicated Transportation Conference topic
under consideration include pavement design, concrete design, work zone safety.

Walter Fagerlund reviewed potential topics with Tim
Merritt and Peter Merfeld.
